Social Media Followers: Quantity or Quality?

This week I celebrated reaching 10,000 followers on Twitter. As I got closer to the milestone I found myself watching my follower count click slowly upwards and a number of my supportive followers were encouraging their contacts to follow me to ensure that the magical 10,000 number was reached. When my follower count clicked over to show 10k the congratulations flowed in and I admit to feeling just a tiny bit pleased.

Twitter Connections or One Way Traffic?

Have you ever come across someone on Twitter who has far more followers than the number of people that they actually follow?

Many Twitter ‘gurus’ preach that a high follower to following ratio is a sign of a quality account. In the case of celebrities, high profile or big brand accounts it’s easy to see that their general popularity or fame will result in a similar on-line popularity, leading to tens, or hundreds, of thousands of followers. Can the same be said for your average high street business or SME? I don’t think so.

Champion Cyclist in Cycling Accident

Chorley’s olympic champion Bradley Wiggins injured in road accident

Olympic cycling champion and Tour de France winner Bradley Wiggins was injured yesterday in a cycling road accident. The accident happened on Crow Orchard Road, Wrightington when a white Astra van pulled out of a garage forecourt into collision with the cyclist.

Preston Driver Held 100% to Blame for Hitting Child Pedestrian who Ran Into Road

The High Court has heard evidence in a case relating to a road accident between a Range Rover and a child in Preston.

At the time of the accident the child was aged 7 years. The accident occurred in daylight as the child, Anisa Rehman, was crossing Acregate Lane, Preston close to her home. The vehicle driver, Mr Brady, gave a statement that he was driving towards New Hall Lane and due to the presence of parked cars on both sides of the road he slowed to between 20 and 30mph.

Blackburn Worker Injured in Fall from Vehicle

A court has heard how a Blackburn man suffered a broken elbow and an injury to his foot when he fell four metres from the roof of a waste collection vehicle. The accident happened on 7 September 2010 as the worker was trying to remove waste which had become stuck to the roof of the vehicle.
