WHO CAN CLAIM?
A number of different people can claim in relation to road accidents.
You can make a claim if you were a:
* Driver of a vehicle – whether the vehicle was
owned by you or someone else, including
your employer
* Passenger in a private vehicle
* Passenger in a taxi or bus
* Motorcycle rider
* Bicycle rider
* Pedestrian
* Horse rider

If you were a driver or rider and the accident was partly your fault
you could still make a claim. As a passenger, you can claim even if
the accident was caused by the driver of the vehicle in which you were
travelling at the time.
Usually, the claim will be made against the insurance company of the
person responsible for causing the accident. However, even if the driver
was not insured or left the scene of the accident without being identified
it is still possible for a claim to be made.

WHAT CAN I CLAIM FOR?
You are entitled to claim compensation for the pain, suffering and
discomfort caused by an injury. The compensation award will also take
into account the effect that the injury has had on your day to day
activities including your ability to work and enjoy your hobbies.

As a driver you could claim for the costs of repairs to your vehicle or
motorcycle or for any policy excess paid under the terms of your own
motor insurance. A claim could also be made for the costs of hiring a
replacement vehicle if your vehicle is unroadworthy due to accident
damage and for the inconvenience caused by losing the use of your
vehicle following an accident.

If you were unable to work following an injury we can claim back your
loss of earnings together with any other financial losses incurred – such
as the costs of medical treatment, travel to and from medical
appointments, the costs of telephone calls, damaged clothing and
motorcycle helmets.
Horse riders can claim for the costs of vets fees, damaged tack, etc.
